General Camp Rules

With thousands of visitors at camp, some guidelines must be enforced in an effort to make everyone’s experience a rewarding & enjoyable one.

The general philosophy of Hillside Campgrounds is that inside our gate, camp members can be themselves without the pressures we feel outside the gate. It is necessary for all camp members to be considerate of each other. We want your home away from home to be pleasant for all, thus we ask everyone to follow a few important rules.

Age Requirements

Hillside Campgrounds is a private, adult-only membership campground exclusively for men aged 21 and older.

Driving

The speed limit throughout the campground is 5 mph for all vehicles, including golf carts, e-bikes, and all-electric types of transportation. Pedestrians ALWAYS have the right of way—no exceptions! Please minimize driving within the camp. Once you arrive and park your car at your site, it should remain there until the end of your stay.

Parking

Your vehicle(s) must fit entirely on your site—no parking in any grassy area. If you have a large vehicle or many cars with your group, register your car in the camp office and park in the lot outside the front gate. The office will provide placards.

Illegal Activities

Use or possession of illegal drugs will not be tolerated anywhere on camp property. This is a zero-tolerance policy, and the State Police will be notified. Whether legal or not, no firearms or weapons of any kind may be brought to camp.

Electric Use

Providing power across the campground is challenging and costly, so sharing responsibly with your camp neighbors is essential. Using high-demand electric items such as heaters, grills, hotplates, and air conditioners is prohibited. Please limit outdoor lighting to 100 watts and opt for LED lighting whenever possible. Remember to turn off all lights before going to bed.

Electric Vehicle Charging Policy

Fairness and reliability are at the heart of sharing resources at Hillside Campgrounds. While we appreciate the growing popularity of electric vehicles (EVs), our current infrastructure CANNOT SUPPORT EV CHARGING ON-SITE. Visit hillside.camp for more information.

Pets

Pets are welcome, provided you follow some common sense rules. Pets are NOT permitted in Cabins or Rental RVs. Due to PA Health and Safety rulings, pets are not allowed at the Rec Hall, Café, or Pool. Owners must clean up after their pets. Dogs must always be leashed, including on your site. All dogs bark, but excessive barking can ruin the camp experience. You are responsible for your pets’ conduct. If you can’t control them, you will be asked to leave.

Nudity

This is a clothing-optional campground when completely inside the camp gates. Clothes must be worn in the camp office and outside the gate.

Alcohol

This is a BYOB camp. Alcohol is not for sale in the camp. At times, beer or alcohol is served by groups at camp events. Please enjoy responsibly. Consumption of alcohol to the point of impairment is not permitted in public camp areas.

Pool Area

Please obey the posted rules and regulations the PA State Department of Health set forth. No glass bottles, pets, or cameras are allowed anywhere in the pool area—shower before entering the water. Nudity is allowed at the pool; sexual activity is not. Please limit music to devices with earphones.

Quiet Hours

No loud music or excessive noise from your campsite between 11:00 PM and 8:00 AM. Your fellow campers will appreciate the quiet.

Campsite Care

Please leave your campsite as you would like to find it and help us preserve the natural beauty of the wooded areas. Trash must be bagged and placed in/by the closest trash can or dumpster in the parking lot.

Fires

Fire pits are located at each site. Take care to control the size and height of your fire. Do not use gasoline or lighter fluid to start your fire. Never burn plastic or garbage, as the fumes can be annoying and toxic. Never leave your fire unattended, and extinguish it before going to bed. Do not cut trees, dead or alive, for firewood. Firewood is available for sale at the camp office.

Hiking and Exploring

When walking the trails of camp, do not trespass on adjoining sites or take shortcuts through other sites. On the nature loop trails, please stay on the inside of the loop. The outside of the loop is not camp property.

Outside Vendors

Vendors and contractors must be pre-approved and arranged through the camp office. You cannot conduct business from your campsite without explicit permission from the camp management. If you have a problem that requires someone from the outside, contact the camp office before deciding.

The Bottom Line

The most important rules are respect & common sense. We are all guests at Hillside. Consider others in addition to your own needs. Ask the staff if you don’t know or have questions about what might be permissible.

The camp reserves the right to remove anyone with behaviors deemed violent or overly offensive.
